Basant Utsav is celebrated with much excitement at Shantiniketan. It actually implies the festival of spring. Basant Utsav is celebrated with much excitement at Shantiniketan. It actually implies the festival of spring. Falgun and Chaitra as indicated by the Bengali date-book is the period of basant Utsav. There is a parade of long melodic move early in the day followed by Tagore’s music.
The programme starts from the morning by singing Rabindra Sangeet and spreading colored powder(Abir) on each other and wishing each other. Then there are several Rabindra Sangeet and dance programmes. There are chorus songs and dance to enjoy the festive mood. People also join the baul group and sings in chorus with them. Altogether it’s a great moment for all.
